The American College of Surgeons recognized 56 U.S. hospitals for meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care in 2022.
The ACS' National Surgical Quality Improvement Program recognized 78 of 615 international hospitals that achieved a composite score in either an "all cases" category of a category, including high-risk cases, according to a Nov. 1 news release from the organization. Each composite score was determined based on eight clinical areas: mortality, cardiac arrest and myocardial infarction, pneumonia, unplanned intubation, ventilator > 48 hours, renal failure, surgical site infection, and urinary tract infection.
To be eligible, hospitals had to submit at least one case in each calendar year from 2020 to 2022, although only performance in calendar year 2022 were evaluated for this list. Of the 702 hospitals participating in 2022, 615 met the three-year criteria.
