U.S. Naval Hospital Naples begins prescription take-back program

The U.S. Naval Hospital Naples, based in Italy, created a new program that allows local residents to return unused or expired prescription drugs to secured drop boxes.

There are two boxes by the hospital, one for liquids and one for solids. They can accept all legal and over-the-counter drugs but cannot accept illegal drugs or syringes. The program was created to help get prescription drugs off the streets.

"Prescription drug overdose is now the leading cause of accidental deaths in the United States. We can now do our part to remove and eliminate that risk from our Naples community," said Capt. Steve Blivin, MD, USNH Naples commanding officer. "We all should be proud to be one the first overseas medical treatment facilities in the Navy to provide this service to our patients."
