State College-based Pennsylvania State University will host an opioid epidemic summit Friday, according to a report from the Daily Collegian.
Here are three things to know.
1. The five-hour summit will consist of flash talks and short presentations lead by faculty to stimulate conversations among scholars and identify distinct ways the university can help address the public health crisis in the Pennsylvania community.
2. Leaders from Penn State's Social Science Research Institute organized the event, which is also co-sponsored by several other university departments.
3. In 2016, Pennsylvania was among the five states in the nation with highest rates of drug overdose deaths, according to the CDC.
