Florida physician convicted in 49k pill opioid prescription scam

A former Marianna, Fla.-based physician was found guilty Wednesday for drug trafficking charges after writing over 1,000 illegal opioid prescriptions, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News.

Between February and November 2015, David Flick, MD, accepted payment for opioid prescriptions or would trade the prescriptions for cocaine and other illegal drugs. Witnesses testified Dr. Flick would not perform examinations before administering the prescriptions and knew some patients sold the drugs on the street.

It is reported he wrote over 1,000 prescriptions for a total of 49,896 pills. Dr. Flick is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 13.
