The American Hospital Association released a new toolkit — Stem the Tide: Addressing the Opioid Epidemic.
The toolkit includes resources for hospitals and health systems to share with clinicians and patients, providing them with information and case examples to tackle the opioid epidemic.
The information is grouped under eight topics:
● Clinician education on prescribing practices
● Nonopioid pain management
● Addressing stigma
● Treatment options for opioid use disorders
● Patient, family and caregiver education
● Transitions of care
● Safeguarding against diversion
● Collaborating with communities
Each topic includes numerous resources, national and state guidelines, training, simulations and case examples.
From 2000 to 2015, more than half a million people died from drug overdoses, according to the CDC.
