All types of uterine cancer are now included on the World Trade Center-related health conditions list, according to a Jan. 18 CDC statement.
The decision to cover uterine cancer as a WTC-related condition closes a "critical gap in coverage for women" and recognizes "the women who sacrificed so much on and after 9/11," said John Howard, MD, administrator of the WTC Health Program.
This final ruling means members of the program who are diagnosed with any type of uterine cancer, including endometrial cancer, are now eligible to have treatment covered by the program at no charge to the patient. Program members are also entitled to all program benefits including cancer screenings, monitoring and benefits counseling at no cost.
With this ruling, Dr. Howard added, all types of cancer caused by exposure to the events of 9/11 are now covered by the WTC Health Program.
