Columbus-based The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is raising concern over the increasing rates of endometrial cancer, especially among Black women.
Cases are rising and more women are dying from the disease, according to a June 6 hospital news release shared with Becker's. The hospital called the trend an urgent healthcare crisis.
"All endometrial cancers are not created equal," Casey Cosgrove, MD, a gynecologic oncologist with the James Cancer Hospital, said in the release. "And unfortunately, especially for Black women, many of the more aggressive endometrial cancers are seen in women who are Black. It is imperative that we get to what is driving this on a cellular level so we can develop better treatment options for this disease."
