Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers developed an ultrasound device that can detect early-stage breast tumors in between routine mammograms, according to a July 23 news release from MIT News.
The device, which is portable and easy for patients to use, provides a "noninvasive method for tracking real-time dynamic changes of soft tissue," according to a study published July 28 in Science Advances.
The flexible patch, which can be attached to a bra, is able to capture breast tissue images from different angles. The device is able to collect scans with similar resolution to images taken by ultrasound probes in imaging centers.
