Houston-based University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is publishing an open-access, peer-reviewed academic journal. Advances in Cancer Education & Quality Improvement will share research and insights with the aim of improving cancer care and patient outcomes.
MD Anderson's division of education and training created the journal and plans to publish biannually, with the first issue to publish in spring 2025, according to a Sept. 25 news release from cancer center.
Topics for submission to the journal's first issue are creating and adapting training programs, delivering team-based education, assessing quality-improvement initiatives, cultivating practices that support high-reliability organizations and patient safety, improving the patient experience, meeting accreditation standards, and adapting learner-centered education programs to new technologies.
Joshua Kuban, MD, associate vice president of education and alumni relations at MD Anderson will serve as editor-in-chief. MD Anderson Professor of Radiation Oncology Shalin Shah, MD, and Research Medical Library Director Clara Fowler will serve as deputy editor-in-chief and editorial director, respectively.
Sixteen members from the oncology community across the U.S. will serve on the journal's editorial board. They are:

- Diane Bodurka, MD, vice president, chief education and training officer at MD Anderson
- Bryan Burt, MD, chief of thoracic surgery at the University of California in Los Angeles
- Carrie Cameron, PhD, associate professor of behavioral science at MD Anderson
- James Cavalier, MSN, PhD, RN, associate vice president of education operations at MD Anderson
- Clara Fowler, director of the research medical library at MD Anderson
- Eileen Hacker, PhD, nursing department chair at MD Anderson
- Victor Hassid, MD, executive medical director of access and business and associate professor of plastic surgery at MD Anderson
- Robin O'Hanlon, associate librarian at New York City-based Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
- Monika Shaw, MD, deputy physician-in-chief for education and faculty affairs at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
- Rahul Sheth, MD, associate professor of interventional radiology at MD Anderson
- Anneliese Taylor, head of scholarly communication at the University of California in San Francisco Library
- Ara Vaporciyan, MD, chair of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at MD Anderson
- Michael Wong, MD, PhD, professor of melanoma medical oncology at MD Anderson
