Newport Beach, Calif.-based Hoag has launched an oncoplastic breast surgery fellowship, the first fellowship of its kind in the U.S.
Fellows will undergo two years of additional specialized training through the Muzzy Family Endowed Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, according to an Oct. 29 news release from Hoag.
Oncoplastic breast surgery combines oncologic and plastic surgery techniques and was pioneered by the former medical director of the Hoag Breast Center, Melvin Silverstein, MD.
Deena Hossino, MD, is the first fellow in the program and will participate in approximately 40 oncoplastic surgery cases per month. The training will be led by Sadia Khan, DO, and Nirav Savalia, MD, the release said.
