Hoag embarks on $30M cancer center upgrades

Newport Beach, Calif.-based Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is renovating its Patty & George Hoag Cancer Center. The renovations will add 34,000-square-feet and cost more than $30 million.

The new space will add more exam rooms and infusion center chairs, with the design focused on easing patients' access to physician specialists, according to an Aug. 30 news release.

The year-long reinvestment is supported by $9 million in philanthropic funds.

Hoag is currently conducting more than 100 clinical trials related to cancer care.

"The world's understanding of cancer, including its underlying genetic and environmental risk factors and most effective treatment regimens, is changing rapidly," said Burton Eisenberg, MD, executive medical director of Hoag Family Cancer Institute. "This major reinvestment in our cancer center reflects Hoag's commitment to not only keep up with these changes, but to remain a leader in pioneering responses to them."
