The American Cancer Society is creating a diversity cancer research training center to remove barriers for underrepresented students wanting to enter oncology.
The American Cancer Society Center for Diversity in Cancer Research Training will supplement the traditional academic journey, according to a Feb. 21 organization press release.
The initial program will support underrepresented high school, college and post-baccalaureate students and expose them to the subjects of oncology and cancer research. The center will also provide mentorship, hands-on research experiences and career development.
The aim is to increase recruitment and nurture students from diverse backgrounds within scientific and clinical training environments, according to the release.
