Massachusetts has the highest rate of mammograms at 88 percent, according to a report released Oct. 3 by personal finance site ValuePenguin.
One in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their life, according to breastcancer.org. On average, 78 percent of women get a mammogram, according to ValuePenguin's report.
ValuePenguin used data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System from the CDC to determine the number of women ages 50 to 74 who received a mammogram within two years for 2020, 2018 and 2016.
The five states with the highest mammogram rates:
1. Massachusetts — 88.1 percent
2. Delaware — 86.1 percent
3. Rhode Island — 85.6 percent
4. Connecticut — 83.9 percent
5. Hawaii — 83.7 percent
The five states with the lowest mammogram rates:
1. Arkansas — 68.1 percent
2. Idaho — 68.9 percent
2. Alaska — 68.9 percent
4. Wyoming — 69.4 percent
5. Mississippi — 69.6 percent
