Utah nursing school sent hundreds of acceptance, rejection letters by mistake

Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, mistakenly sent acceptance and rejection letters to every applicant for its nursing college, affecting hundreds of people, according to Salt Lake City-based radio station KSL-FM

The school soon realized the issue and sent correct admission emails, apology letters and supportive resources.

"The College of Nursing is truly sorry that an error in a new system used to deliver admissions decisions caused a stressful situation for applicants to its program last month," BYU said in a statement, according to the Nov. 15 report. "Despite successful tests earlier in the day that decisions were sent out, the new system malfunctioned and sent both acceptance and rejection letters to all applicants."

Emily Hansen, a BYU junior, told KSL-FM she celebrated her acceptance letter while feeling it was "too good to be true." She later found out it was a mistake.

"I mean, I wasn't expecting to get in," she said. "It was just the emotional turmoil of the back and forth of getting rejected and then accepted and then rejected again all in one day was a lot to handle."
