The American Organization for Nursing Leadership awarded Sharon Pappas, PhD, RN, chief nurse executive of Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare, the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award honors leaders in the nursing profession who have also served AONL in an important leadership capacity, according to an April 19 system news release.
Dr. Pappas' nursing career has lasted more than 40 years. She has been chief nurse executive at Emory since 2016, where she is responsible for nursing practice across the system's 11 hospitals, 250 outpatient clinic locations and more than 8,000 nurses. Through Dr. Pappas' work, four hospitals and one clinic have received Magnet designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Dr. Pappas has served on AONL's board of directors and as a committee chair. She currently represents the organization as chair of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's commission on Magnet recognition.
Dr. Pappas will receive the award for her career accomplishments on May 2 at the AONL's annual conference.
