Former CMS Administrator Donald Berwick, MD, has announced he will run for governor of Massachusetts, formalizing hints made in January that he was considering doing so.
During his tenure in CMS spanning from April 2010 to November 2011, the pediatrician was the architect behind the "triple aim" framework for President Barack Obama's healthcare reform law.
"As a doctor, an educator, an innovator and someone who has dedicated his professional career to making things work better and to helping people — I am ready to lead," Dr. Berwick said in a statement posted on his campaign website.
He faces Democratic primary matchups against the state treasurer, lieutenant governor, and a U.S. representative.
