Corcoran Hospital Closes, Adventist to Take Over Clinic Operations

Corcoran (Calif.) District Hospital, one of the last rural hospitals in the central San Joaquin Valley, has closed, though its rural clinic will remain open through Hanford, Calif.-based Adventist Health Central Valley Network, according to a report from the Fresno Bee.

The hospital has been mostly shut down since March of this year, leaving only outpatient surgery, radiology and laboratory services open, according to the report.

The hospital was $1.5 million in debt at the time of the closure late last week. In total, 52 employees have been laid off, though Corcoran's former employees can apply for positions in Adventist's system, according to the report.

Corcoran has been open for 50 years, and its closure leaves 11,500 people without specialty or emergency care closer than 20 miles, according to the report.
