Hospital nurses spend one-quarter of their time on non-patient care, such as fulfilling regulatory requirements, providing the same information several times and securing equipment and supplies, according to a nationwide survey by Alpharetta, Ga.-based Jackson Healthcare.

Asked for solutions, nurses called for more ancillary staff support, hospital-wide communications technology and eliminating redundant requirements.
