Three days after an FBI raid at the residence of American Senior Communities' CEO James G. Burkhart last week, the Indianapolis-based nursing home chain has terminated Mr. Burkhart's employment, according to The Indianapolis Star.
The termination was announced Sept. 18 and is effective immediately.
"American Senior Communities is launching an immediate search for an interim and permanent CEO who will embrace ASC's core values," a company statement said. "Meanwhile, the chief executive functions have been assumed by the American Senior Communities' board of managers, each of whom has long-term experience in the healthcare business, and senior care in particular."
Mr. Burkhart referred to the search as a "cost review," according to the Associated Press.
American Senior Communities also claimed its internal review found that "this investigation does not touch upon the operation of any nursing home serviced by ASC," according to Louisville Business First.
The government has yet to comment on why FBI agents searched Mr. Burkhart's home.
