9 arrested in U of Chicago trauma center protest

A group of 50 activists from the Trauma Care Coalition chained together and blocked traffic on Michigan Avenue in Chicago Thursday night to demand the University of Chicago build a trauma center on the city's South Side, according to NBC Chicago.

Nine young adults were arrested during the protest and released early Friday, according to the report.

The coalition demonstrated in front of Chicago's Ritz Carlton hotel, where the school was holding a fundraiser. The goal was to motivate donors to boycott funding the university until it opens a trauma center, according to the report.

The university began investigating the need for a South Side trauma center in January.
