Washington State Launches Hospital Infection Control Web Site

The Washington State Department of Health has launched a new Web site where residents can view and compare infection rates for hospitals across the state, according to a Washington State DOH news release.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that hospital-acquired infections are one of the top 10 leading causes of death during hospital stays, according to the release. The Web site was designed to allow patients to use infection control data in making decisions regarding their healthcare.

Project development began in 2007 when the legislature directed the state DOH to establish the Health Care Associated Infections Program, according to the release. The agency worked with the Washington State Hospital Association, healthcare professionals and members of the public to create the site.
