The University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville has opened the first phase $26 million dedicated heart hospital, according to the Seymour Herald.
The second floor houses an expanded cardiovascular ICU, and the second phase of construction, set to begin in the coming weeks, will accommodate heart, lung and vascular needs of patients.
The medical center said dedicated heart hospitals following clinical guidelines show improved clinical care processes in 90 percent of heart surgery cases, according to a report by a task force of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
