St. Luke's Hospital, based outside of Toledo, Ohio, is considering merging with another local hospital group, according to the Toledo Blade.
St. Luke's President and CEO Dan Wakeman said candidates for merger are seven-hospital Mercy Health Partners or seven-hospital ProMedica Health System.
The solo institution, shut out of some key insurance contracts, was the only Toledo-area hospital with a 2008 operating loss, at $8.8 million, and losses are expected to be higher this year.
