St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Conn., has notified 858 patients affected when paper records were stolen from an independent physician's car.
The information on the records included patients' names, dates of birth and medical record numbers. Hospital officials do not believe the stolen information has been used inappropriately.
"Our goal has always been to help ensure adequate safeguards are in place to protect our patients' confidentiality. Education of our staff has already been completed and we are evaluating other opportunities to strengthen our compliance," said John Rodis, MD, executive vice president, COO and chief physician executive, in a statement.
