Senate Republicans are demanding to know why health officials signed a $20 million public relations contract to promote the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to a Hill report.
The contract has received widespread criticism from GOP members of Congress since news about it broke May 21, according to the report.
The public relations campaign was a mandate of the PPACA and was, in part, a way to promote preventative care benefits written into the law.
A group of Republican senators wrote a letter to the Office of Management and Budget calling on President Obama to immediately cancel the $20 million contract. Chicago-based PR firm Porter Novelli won the contract after a competitive bidding process, according to the report.
