Democrats in the U.S. Senate are not planning a confirmation to nominate acting CMS administrator Marilyn Tavenner, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
Ms. Tavenner, a nurse and former hospital executive, has been the acting top official at CMS since November 2011 when the White House appointed her to succeed Donald Berwick,MD.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) said there won't be a move to schedule a hearing on her nomination because it is highly unlikely a nomination of Ms. Tavenner would garner enough Republican support to override a filibuster, which requires 60 senate votes.
White House spokesman Nick Papas said "we continue to urge the Senate to act on her nomination," according to the report.
