Senate Rejects House Version of Spending Bill With PPACA Delay

The Senate has voted to table House Republicans' amendments to a spending resolution, including a one-year delay of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act's implementation and a provision repealing the healthcare reform law's medical device tax.

The Senate's rejection of the amended bill is the latest development in a heated debate between Democrats and Republicans over the spending resolution, with Republicans pushing to include a provision to defund the PPACA.

Earlier this month, House lawmakers passed the original version of the spending resolution, which included a provision to defund the PPACA. However, the Senate stripped the provision from the bill, despite Republicans fighting to retain the language cutting off further spending on the healthcare reform law's implementation. The House passed an amended version of the bill this weekend, which would delay the PPACA and repeal the device tax.

The nation will face a government shutdown if federal lawmakers don't pass funding legislation by midnight.
