Patient shoots himself inside NJ hospital

A 72-year-old patient shot himself inside Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, N.J., Wednesday morning.

The man, whose name has not been released, was admitted to Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center's emergency department at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, according to a statement from the hospital. He pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head about an hour later while in the hospital's ED treatment bay where he was separated from other patients by a curtain.

On Friday morning, hospital officials said the patient was in critical condition. No one else was injured in the incident.

Like many other hospitals, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center does not have metal detectors at its entrance.
