The contractor responsible for building the new VA hospital in Orlando, Fla., said construction delays may tack on an additional $120 million to the already existing $665 million price tag, according to an Orlando Sentinel report.
The contractor discussed the dilemma at a House hearing on the Department of Veteran Affairs' construction projects. According to the report, the agency accepted part of the blame for construction delays, admitting top officials took too much time picking medical equipment for the new facility. Agency official Robert Petzel said it was the VA's intention and priority to fit the hospital with "the most up-to-date [equipment]," according to the report.
The construction delays also mean the projected completion date has been pushed back from this October to summer 2013, at the earliest. The contractor broke ground in 2008.
