More hospitals in the Boston area are offering hotel-style amenities, such as private rooms, flat screen televisions, free wireless Internet and European showers in an attempt to stand out in the competitive healthcare market, according to a report in the Boston Globe.
Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham (Mass.) recently completed a $30 million expansion. Newton (Mass.)-Wellesley Hospital and Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass., also recently updated their facilities to include such amenities.
In addition to providing more privacy to patients, larger rooms allow for the use of more technology and improve infection control, according to the report.
The hospitals have improved amenities in part to retain local patients who might otherwise travel to downtown Boston for medical care, according to the report.
