Mercy Hospital in Missouri Nears Completion One Year After Tornado Destroyed Facility

Mercy Hospital Joplin (Mo.), which was destroyed by a tornado last year, will be the quickest and largest acute-care hospital to be built in the United States and meet the International Building Code requirements, according to a news release.

The 150,000-square-foot interim hospital is scheduled for completion in April, meaning the building will have been designed and constructed in only eight-and-a-half months. The short timeline is due in large part to the modular design, in which components are built in a remote facility and construction of individual units occurs on site simultaneously.
