Maxis Health System, the parent of Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale, Pa., has announced it will not open an outpatient facility on the Marian campus after the hospital closes at the end of the month, according to a Wayne Independent report.
Maxis determined the demand for services for the outpatient facility were not great enough to move forward with the project. "Over the last 60 days, we have focused on whether or not there was a need for Maxis to maintain an outpatient presence in the Carbondale community," Mary Theresa Vautrinot, president and CEO of Maxis told the Wayne Independent. "Based on the existing primary care services currently available, and the expressed intention of other providers to enhance their outpatient presence in Carbondale, we have decided that there is not sufficient reason for Maxis to introduce or maintain outpatient services in the community."
Wayne Memorial Health System in Honesdale, Pa., is currently exploring the development of an outpatient or urgent care facility in Carbondale, according to the report.
