Maxis Health System, parent company of Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale, Pa., has announced the hospital will shutter by the end of February, according to a Times-Tribune report.
According to the report, efforts to keep Marian Community open — including reducing the number of hospital beds from 70 to 35 — have not worked. Maxis Health President and CEO Mary Theresa Vautrinot attributed the hospital's multimillion-dollar annual losses to lower demand for hospital services.
