Jackson Health Says Quality Remains Same, Despite Union Allegations

Miami-based Jackson Health System CEO Carlos Migoya has said publicly that quality at Jackson Health System continues to improve despite recent layoffs of nearly 1,000 employees and allegations by union supporters that the staffing changes have affected care, according to a Miami Herald report.

A quality report shared at the public health system's latest board meeting (based on February data) showed that the hospital's rate of bloodstream infections and medication errors had dropped compared to previous months. Patient falls with injuries, however, had increased.

A SEIU representative countered that "the word from the trenches" is that certain quality measures are suffering and the improved rates may be due to under-reporting, according to the report.
