High deductible health plans
- 17.3 percent of persons 65 and under with private coverage are enrolled in a HDHP (defined as a private health plan with a deductible of $1,100 or more for self-only coverage or $2,200 or more for family coverage).
- Persons who purchased private coverage directly are significantly more likely to enroll in a HDHP than those enrolled through employers.
- Enrollment in HDHPs did not vary by income.
- Enrollment in HDHPs increases with education level.
Consumer-directed health plans

4.5 percent of those under 65 with private coverage are enrolled in a CDHP (defined as a HDHP with health savings account).
