HHS has released $40 million for various initiatives aimed at improving public health and strengthening public health infrastructure, according to an HHS news release.
The funds, which were made available by the Prevention and Public Health Fund created by the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act and supplemented by the Health Resources and Services Administration, were awarded to health departments and several schools across the country.
The awards also include support for 10 Public Health Training Centers at accredited schools of public health and other public or non-profit institutions, bringing the total number of Public Health Training Centers to 37 across the country. The PHTC program provides public health workforce education and training in areas such as environmental health, public health leadership, nutrition, and cultural competency.
