HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced today that more than 16 million senior citizens with original Medicare received at least one free preventive service during the first six months of 2012 because of funding from the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
"Millions of Americans are getting cancer screenings, mammograms and other preventive services for free thanks to the healthcare law," Sec. Sebelius said in a statement.
Prior to the passage of the healthcare law, Medicare patients had to potentially pay for a portion of preventive benefits, such as cancer screenings. Under the PPACA, Medicare patients receive preventive benefits free of charge, as well as a complimentary annual wellness visit with a physician of choice.
