HHS: Former Microsoft Executive to Take Over HealthCare.gov

Starting tomorrow, Microsoft Office Division President Kurt DelBene will take over leading and managing HealthCare.gov, according to a blog post by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

Mr. DelBene will serve as Ms. Sebelius' senior adviser and will provide management expertise, operations oversight and advice on additional enrollment channels, field operations, marketing and communications, according to HHS.

"Kurt has proven expertise in heading large, complex technology teams and in product development," Ms. Sebelius wrote. "He will be a tremendous asset in our work."

Jeff Zients, a former White House budget director, was tapped by HHS earlier this year to take on a leadership role in efforts to repair the federal health insurance exchange website, which experienced numerous technical issues following its launch. He is leaving HHS to serve as director of the National Economic Council, according to a report from The Hill.

In her blog post, Ms. Sebelius wrote Mr. Zients "did an outstanding job working with our team to provide management advice and counsel on the HealthCare.gov project" and that the site today is   "night and day" better compared with when it had first launched. Federal officials have said they made "substantial progress" in repairing HealthCare.gov, which can now support 50,000 users at a time, according to an HHS progress report.
