GOP Leader Says His Repeal-and-Replace Bill Would Cut Premiums by 10%

Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), who is in line to chair of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, said his active bill to repeal and replace the healthcare reform law would reduce premiums "across the board by up to 10 percent," according to an editorial he wrote in USA Today.

The 10 percent savings was certified by the Congressional Budget Office, due to such factors as malpractice reform, allowing small businesses to collaborate on health plans and allowing health plans to be purchased across state lines.

The bill would also allow people with pre-existing conditions to obtain affordable coverage, prohibit insurers from "unjustly canceling policies" and allow dependents to remain on their parents' policies through age 25.

"We can reform healthcare, provide better patient protections and lower costs," he wrote. "It doesn't take $1 trillion in new government spending, $500 billion in new taxes and $500 billion in cuts to Medicare over the next decade."
