Former President George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara both hospitalized at Houston Methodist

Former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara Bush have both been admitted to Houston Methodist, according to a family spokesman.

Mr. Bush was taken to Houston Methodist Saturday after shortness of breath, Jim McGrath, the spokesman, announced on Twitter Wednesday. Mr. Bush was admitted to the intensive care unit Wednesday afternoon "to address an acute respiratory problem stemming from pneumonia," Mr. McGrath said. He had a procedure to protect his airway and is now stable.

Wednesday morning, Mrs. Bush was also admitted to Houston Methodist "as a precaution after experiencing fatigue and coughing."

Mr. Bush had sent a letter to President-elect Donald Trump Jan. 10 lamenting he would not be able to attend Mr. Trump's inauguration. "My doctor says if I sit outside in January, it will likely put me six feet under," he wrote, according to ABC News. "Same for Barbara."

Mr. Bush is 92 years old and has a form of Parkinson's disease. Mrs. Bush is 91.
