Thomas P. Saxton Sr., former president and CEO of Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) General Hospital, has died at age 81, according to a report by the Times Leader.
During 21 years as CEO, from 1967-1988, Mr. Saxton was responsible for bringing the open-heart surgery program to the community.
"What he demanded was if you’re going to have a program, he insisted it be comparable to the very best in the country," said William R. Host, another former president and CEO of the hospital. "He was not interested in half measures — ever."
