Federal Officials: Some Will Have Problems With PPACA Plans

Some people enrolled in health plans through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act exchanges will experience issues with their coverage, Obama administration officials have said, according to a report from The Hill.

White House Advisor Phil Schiliro told MSNBC Tuesday that federal officials are working closely with insurers to address any problems, according to the report. The Obama administration has also established a toll-free number, 1-800-318-2596, for those who experience problems with their new insurance.

PPACA insurance coverage began yesterday for those who enrolled in exchange plans before Dec. 24. One of the possible issues with the PPACA health plans involves 834 forms, the documents used to transmit people's choice of insurance coverage and personal information from HealthCare.gov to insurers.

Due to one of the many issues with the federal exchange site, HealthCare.gov didn't produce 834 forms for some consumers earlier this year. However, thanks to repair efforts, CMS reported the error rate for transmitting consumer information to insurers had fallen to less than 1 percent by the beginning of December.

Insurers now have all of the data for those who have enrolled in health plans through HealthCare.gov, according to CMS. If there are any problems with that data, the federal government and insurers are contacting consumers and working to solve the issue, CMS spokeswoman Julie Bataille told The Hill.
