The American Medical Association has named James L. Madara, MD, its new executive vice president and CEO, effective July 1, according to an association news release.
Among his accolades, Dr. Madara has served as professor and chair of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine; professor and dean at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine; and CEO of the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Dr. Madara has also published more than 200 original papers and chapters on cell biology and gastrointestinal disease. He has also served as president of the American Board of Pathology. Most recently, Dr. Madara served as senior advisor with Leavitt Partners, a healthcare consulting firm started by former Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt.
