Community Health Systems is considering leasing Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Fla., and has approached several hospital district board members about its interest, according to a report by the Star-Banner.
The Marion County Hospital District board voted not to search for a new hospital operator in November, because the board felt that no company would be interested in the financially ailing health system.
The interest from CHS is part of the company's strategy to target suffering community hospitals, according to the report.
If CHS acquired Munroe it would be the hospital operator's largest holding in the Florida.
