Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill., announced it has filed a certificate of need application to expand its emergency department.
The expansion would add 14,000 square feet and 17 acute emergency beds, bringing the total number of beds in the ED to 39. The project would also add a trauma room and safe room and a dedicated radiology suite that would house a new MRI, two CTs, two X-ray rooms and an ultrasound room.
The hospital aims to begin construction in October and complete the expansion in 2014.
