Atlanta's Piedmont Explores Affiliation With Henry Medical Center

Piedmont Healthcare, which operates four hospitals in the metro Atlanta area, has signed a confidentiality agreement to explore a partnership with Henry Medical Center, a 215-bed nonprofit community hospital in Stockbridge, Ga., south of Atlanta, according to a story in the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

While the nature of the partnership has not been disclosed, it will not be an outright sale of Henry Medical to Piedmont, Charles Scott, president and CEO of Henry Medical, said in a press release.

"As we consider healthcare developments locally, the potential future impact of healthcare reform, and other changes at the state and federal levels, we realize it would be highly beneficial to align with a strong, highly regarded regional healthcare system," Mr. Scott said in the release.

Both organizations cited a need to sustain long-term viability in a changing marketplace as the reason for their negotiations.

In the same region, Saint Joseph's Health System has been in talks with several competitors including Piedmont, Emory Healthcare and Gwinnett Medical Center, according to the Business Chronicle.
