Michael Young, CEO of beleaguered Grady Hospital in Atlanta, said the hospital made money last year, cut length of stay from eight days to six and cut ED waiting time in half in 2009, according to an interview by WSB TV.
This year, the hospital will open a stroke center and new cardiac center.
Mr. Young explained his strategy in an interview with Becker's Hospital Review last October.

Mr. Young, who was hired to turn the hospital around, shared more 2009 statistics:
- $41 million in revenue and $304 million in private donations;
- $300 million provided in free care;
- 600 new beds installed; and
- 50,000 new patients.
