An analysis has found Medicare cuts to hospitals could cost 278,000 jobs overall by 2021, according to a news release from the American Hospital Association.
H.R. 3630, which extends the Social Security tax holiday, unemployment insurance and Medicare physician payment fix, could cost 83,000 jobs alone if implemented. Mandatory spending, slated to begin in 2013, would also cause the loss of another 194,000 jobs.
"Cuts in funding for hospital care will threaten jobs at a time when our nation needs to be creating jobs, not eliminating them," AHA President and CEO Rich Umbdenstock said in the release. "H.R. 3630 would lead to further job loss in hospitals, an ill-advised move in these tough economic times."
