AHA to Congress: Extend Medicare Programs Critical to Rural Hospitals

The American Hospital Association urged members of Congress to extend expiring Medicare programs that benefit rural hospitals, according to an AHA News Now report.

AHA sent letters to every member of Congress expressing support for two bills:
  • The R-HoPE Act, which would extend several provisions, including outpatient hold harmless payments and direct billing for the technical component of pathology services; and
  • The Rural Hospital Access Act, which would extend the Medicare-dependent hospital program and the enhanced Medicare low-volume adjustment through September 30, 2013.
