15 New Healthcare Companies to Know

The following is a list of 15 healthcare companies founded from 2010 through 2012 of note for hospitals and health systems.

1. Agile Diagnostics (Chicago). Agile Diagnostics offers a web and mobile platform that gives physicians real-time, point-of-care access to best practices and clinical guidelines.

2. Advanced Healthcare Partners (Tampa, Fla.). Advanced Healthcare Partners is a healthcare management and consulting company that builds, manages and integrates the business operations of high potential, forward-thinking healthcare practices, platforms and concepts.

3. Aerial BioPharma (Morrisville, N.C.). Aerial BioPharma is a privately held biopharmaceutical company focused on developing biologics and small molecules for conditions that are affected by processes in the central nervous system.

4. Aidin (New York City). Aidin is a tool for hospitals that matches patients to a post-acute care provider, such as a nursing home or rehabilitation center, that is best suited for patient's individual needs.

5. Ashametrics (Cambridge, Mass.). Ashametrics designs wireless wearable sensors and mobile phone applications that collect physiological data. The collected data can be used for outpatient ambulatory monitoring.

6. Asthmapolis (Madison, Wisc.). Asthmapolis is a website used to research, track and manage information for physicians and asthma patients. Healthcare providers can remotely monitor asthma symptoms and the use of medications by their patients.

7. Avado (Bellevue, Wash.). Avado developed a patient relationship management system for healthcare providers working toward accountable care. The system allows healthcare providers to contact patients who have chronic conditions that need regular management, among other features.

8. CarePlanners (New York City). CarePlanners provides patient and caregiver navigation, coordination and organization solutions through a team of healthcare experts.

9. Caretricity (Miami). Caretricity allows patients to search for physicians online by specialty. When patients enter their insurance information and desired procedure, they can then determine the out-of-pocket expense and can book the appointment online. The website allows physicians to set expectations for patients and verify insurance to avoid collections issues later.

10. CareWire (Twin Cities, Minn.). CareWire is a patient engagement solution that uses automated text messaging to increase appointment yield. CareWire aims to help patients arrive to scheduled appointments on time, improve patient appointment preparation and identify areas of patient dissatisfaction.

11. Deal Me Health (Chicago). Deal Me Health offers free online scheduling to patients and crowdsources cash-paying patients for providers. The company's goal is to provide healthcare providers with a way to find cash-paying clients and fill time in their schedules.

12. Docphin (New York City). Docphin developed a platform for healthcare providers to connect through medical research. More than 35 health systems across the country use the Docphin platform.

13. iQuartic (Cambridge, Mass.). iQuartic builds technology to network and mine healthcare data systems. The technology generates high-end analytics from electronic health records for risk profiling, disease management and quality benchmarking.

14. OvaScience (Boston). OvaScience is a fertility company using patented technology to increase the successfulness of in vitro fertilization.

15. Tonic Health (Menlo Park, Calif.) Tonic Health's software platform allows healthcare providers to build more appealing health history questionnaires that patients can complete online or on an iPad in a game-like interface. The goal of the software is to provide more accurate patient data to healthcare providers and improve patient engagement.
